Headache Guide

Last updated: September 7, 2026

This privacy policy applies to the Headache Guide app for iPhone and Apple Watch, including its widgets and complications. Headache Guide helps you record headaches, other symptoms, medication, activities, sleep, daily summaries and environmental factors.

At a glance

  • Your journal and health data are stored locally on your own devices.
  • No account is required.
  • The app contains no advertising, tracking or third-party analytics.
  • Your data is not sent to a server operated by the developer.
  • Apple Health, Apple Weather and the App Store are used only for features you choose to use.

Data processed by the app

The app processes information you enter yourself, such as registration profiles, headache and symptom scores, presence-only symptoms, pain characteristics, medication, activities, sleep, menstrual cycle information, daily summaries, times, notes, reminders, environmental factors and preferences. This information is used to display your journal, charts, insights, reports and reminders.

Apple Health and HealthKit

With your permission, Headache Guide can read sleep, workouts, selected symptoms and menstrual cycle data from Apple Health. Permission is requested only when you use the relevant feature. If you enable Health synchronisation, selected symptom records can also be written to Apple Health from the iPhone app. Menstrual cycle data is never written by Headache Guide.

Imported Health data becomes part of your local journal. HealthKit data is not used for advertising, marketing, profiling or sale. You can change permissions at any time in the Health and privacy settings on your Apple devices. Records written to Apple Health must be removed separately in the Health app if you no longer want them there.

Apple Weather and location

If you enable weather linking, the app requests your approximate current location to retrieve current conditions from Apple Weather. Location is requested only for that lookup, with an accuracy of approximately three kilometres. Your coordinates are not stored in the journal. The resulting weather values may be stored locally with a registration. Apple Weather receives the location needed to provide this service under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. The iPhone and Apple Watch can each perform this lookup using their own available connection.

Storage on iPhone and Apple Watch

Journal data and settings are stored locally inside the protected app containers on iOS and watchOS. Local files containing journal and health data use iOS file protection and are excluded from automatic device, Finder and iCloud backups. Information needed by the Watch app is synchronised between your own iPhone and Apple Watch using Apple’s device communication services. The developer cannot access this data.

Encrypted backups and exports

At your request, Headache Guide can create an encrypted backup with the .hpwb extension. The backup is protected using AES-256-GCM with a random 256-bit key. That key is stored in your iCloud Keychain so that the backup can be restored on your own compatible Apple devices without a separate password. You choose where the backup file is saved. It is never uploaded automatically to a developer-operated server.

PDF and CSV reports are created only when you choose to export them and are not automatically encrypted by the app. From the moment you export a backup or report, you are responsible for its storage location and recipients.

Notifications

With your permission, the app schedules local reminders for registrations, medication, daily summaries and follow-up measurements. These notifications are scheduled on your device and are not sent by an external server. You can change or disable them in iOS and watchOS settings.

Trial period and purchase

The app provides a 14-day trial of all features and offers a one-time in-app purchase for permanent access to the complete feature set. Apple processes the purchase and purchase history through the App Store. The developer does not receive your payment card details. The app only receives the purchase status needed to unlock features.

Face ID, Touch ID and PIN

You can optionally protect the app with a PIN and your device’s biometric authentication. Headache Guide receives only the result of the authentication. Biometric data itself is not read or stored by the app.

Sharing, tracking and external parties

The developer does not collect personal or health data from the app. The app contains no advertising networks, tracking technology or external analytics and does not sell your data. Data is exchanged with Apple services only when necessary for a feature you choose: Apple Health, Apple Weather, App Store purchases, iCloud Keychain and communication between your own devices.

Retention and deletion

Local records remain on your devices until you delete them. Removing the app removes its local app data. Files you exported remain at the location you chose until you remove them. Data written to Apple Health remains there until you delete it in Apple Health. The encryption key may remain in your iCloud Keychain so that existing backups can still be restored.

Medical information and limitations

Headache Guide is a personal journal and information tool. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent medical conditions and does not replace professional medical advice. Insights show possible associations in your own records and do not prove causes.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the app’s features or legal requirements change. The latest version is published on this page.
